PPI Claims. Banks dragging their feet

The bitter taste left by the ppi mis-selling scandal lingers on. Despite the banks being finally brought to account and the rulings and deadlines set by the Financial Services Authority, people still have to fight every inch of the way to get justice and recompense.

Millions of bank customers have now come to realise that for years banks have made a fortune from mis-selling Payment Protection Insurance.  In tens of thousands of cases people have been encouraged to sign up to ppi – whether they were eligible or it was appropriate or not.

Selling PPI – an expensive, optional extra, designed to cover repayments in the event of unemployment, an accident, or long term sickness or unemployment – was a lucrative money spinner for the banks – one they weren’t going to give up without a fight. The banks eventually gave up their legal challenge and threw in the towel. But there is still great reluctance to honour their debt.

This scandal, which dates back to the 1990s, has meant that today, banks have set aside billions of pounds to cover the cost of the flood of compensation claims landing on the doorstep everyday.

The independent consumer watchdog Which? has championed the cause for those affected and due compensation, but executive director Richard Lloyd believes banks still are not treating customers fairly. “If the next round of complaints data doesn’t show a dramatic improvement then the FSA must take tough enforcement action against banks whose complaints handling isn’t up to scratch”. “In a properly functioning market banks wouldn’t be able to get away with treating customers like this.”

The bottom line is, if you’ve had a loan, credit card, HP agreement or mortgage anytime in the last 10 years you could be entitled to PPI compensation! Here at Consumer Finance Claims we look to recover the full cost of the policy plus interest if we believe that you have been mis-sold PPI. Even if the loan is still running we can look to reduce your ongoing payments as part of our negotiations
